“These days people are living into their 90’s and beyond. As a result, there is increasing concern about care for the elderly. Do you think it is the responsibility of the family to care for their elderly members or should the government be held responsible?”

Sample Answer:

In today’s society, with people living longer than ever before, the issue of elderly care has become a major concern. There is an ongoing debate about whether it is the responsibility of the family to care for their elderly members or if the government should be held accountable. In my opinion, both the family and the government have a role to play in ensuring the well-being of the elderly.

Firstly, it is undeniable that the family has a moral obligation to care for their elderly members. These individuals have spent their lives nurturing and supporting their families, and it is only fair that the same love and support are reciprocated in their old age. Family members can provide emotional and physical care, ensuring that the elderly are not left feeling isolated or neglected. Moreover, the family can offer a sense of familiarity and comfort that may not be possible in a care facility.

However, it is unrealistic to expect all families to be able to provide the level of care that their elderly members may require. Many families are faced with financial constraints, work commitments, and other responsibilities that make it difficult to provide full-time care for the elderly. This is where the government should step in and provide support. The government has a duty to ensure that there are adequate resources and facilities in place to cater to the needs of the elderly. This includes funding for care homes, healthcare services, and social support programs.

In conclusion, the responsibility for caring for the elderly should be shared between the family and the government. While the family should provide love and support, the government should ensure that there are sufficient resources and facilities available to meet the needs of the elderly. By working together, both parties can ensure that the elderly are able to live out their later years in comfort and dignity.
